Miskanawah
WHAT IS MISKANAWAH?
Guided by Indigenous teachings, MISKANAWAH (mis-kon-a-wa), Cree for many little roads and pathways offers supportive services to people in Calgary as they strengthen their circles of self, family, community, and culture. Individuals work towards mino-pimatisiwin, Cree word for ‘the good life’, through the restorative impacts of the sweat lodge, smudge, pipe ceremony; traditional healers, and medicines, the wisdom of Elders, as well as Western therapeutic approaches.
The goal is to support children, youth and families in building pathways to and within the Indigenous community, strengthen natural supports and engage in healing and healthier ways of living. The Miskanawah approach to Holistic wellbeing offers families and the community opportunities to reinforce connections through culture by means of engaging with Elders and century old practices and traditions including ceremony and language.
